The author describes the pupae of three species of Japanese crane-fly belonging to the genus Oropeza Needham, viz., Oropeza satsuma Alexander, Oropeza saitamensis Alexander and Oropeza candidipes Alexander. The general characteristic of the genus is that the maxillary palpus is recurved at the tip, the dorsum of the 8th abdominal segment has two knob-like processes near the anterior margin, and the sternum of the 8th abdominal segment has four strong and bifid-tipped spines. The chief features characteristic to each species are the number of spinules on the mesonotum, the number of spinules or spines on the sternum of 4th to 7th abdominal segments, and the shape of the lateral spine on the 8th abdominal segment. Both Oropeza satsuma and O. saitamensis have 5 pairs of spinules on the mesonotum, while in O. candidipes only two spines are recognizable. Both O. satsuma and O. saitamensis have 2-6 to 2-8 spinules or spines on the sternum of 5th to 7th abdominal segments, while in O. candidipes spines are 0-6. Lateral spines on the 8th abdominal segment of the three species are figured in the plate (Plate 18, figs. F, G, H).
