The breaking-up of hibernation in the larvae of a rice-stem borer, Chilo simplex Butler is accelerated by their absorption of surrounding water in spring resulting in the speeding-up of certain enzyme such as catalase, closely related to the metabolism and the metamorphosis of the insect.
