It is fact that dramatic development of radiology contributes to diagnosis of mankind diseases and is essential to improvement of public health. In spite of the great value, radiation does harm as one make misuse, overuse, and negligence of its control. This study aims to identifying the perceived safeness of radiation control by radiological technologists working at hospital. A structured questionnaire was developed for this study and administered to the 167 radiological technologists of 44 hospitals. The questionnaire consists of items on the knowledge of radiation protection facilities, the consciousness about radiological safety rule, the items related to the endeavors of decreasing national radiation hazards, relationship between anxiety group and behavioral factors, and performing regular physical check-up and safety education. Radiation calibration is legally required at least once a year. However the study has confirmed that only 38.3% of the hospitals under the survey kept the law, and the half of the respondents accepted the states of their negligence. Such negligence is more likely to occur for the workers with a longer duration. Safety guide lines of diagnostic radiology department in Seoul National University Hospital says two meter away from portable X-ray units. 35% of the respondents did not keep the safety rule. This is more conspicuous for young technologists. One fourth of the respondents, 26.9% have received the safety control education. Thus, safety education should periodically be performed and supervised by Ministry of the HEALTH AND SOCIAL AFFAIRS. More than 90% of the respondents have expressed the fear of possible radiation hazards. This study shows that those with less anxiety are less likely regularly feel less anxiety on radiation hazards.
