• Ultrasonic techniques has been used quite extensively not only in neurology, obsterics and gynecology, but also in cardiology. Recently ultrasonography has been used for evaluating and diagnosing diseases involving intra-abdominal and retroperitoneal structure. During the past 2 years we have performed over 300 ultrasonographies for various intra-abdominal and retroperitoneal diagnostic problems. Ultrasonography has proved to be complementary to many of the established roentogenographic and isotope examinations. The procedure is safely and noninvasively performed, so the patient is examined without any discomforts. In this paper the principles of ultrasound diagnosis will be briefly described. Normal ultrasonographic anatomy will be demonstrated. Many illustrative cases demonstrate the various image patterns of characteristic of abdominal ultrasound.
