It was more than eight years ago that automatic developing equipment was first imported into Japan. Since then this kind of equipment, including mrchines of Japanese made, has been largely made use of. Automatic developing equipment is divided into two main classes, Roller-system and Hanger-system. The purpose of this paper is to compare the one with the other on merits and demerits. We investigated the experiences in using the two types for the most part, namely, a Procomat Rapid Hanger-system automatic developing device by Elema Shenander Co. Ltd., which has been in use for seven years in our hospital and an X-OMAT M4 Roller-system automatic developing device by Eastman Kodak Co., Ltd., which was used in Hiroshima ABCC. We also made inguiries of a few facilities in Japan about their experiences. This paper shows hereinafter up-to-date accidents and troubles, preservation and maintenance and function and performance based on the investigation.
