Duty cycle of spot welder is 10% at most, therefore its continuous capacity is not large, meanwhile a large capacity of welder is needed, because large current flows even if for a short time. To solve this problem, authors tried to develop a new method in which batteries are inserted in the primary circuit of the transformer and a large AC current is obtained in the secondary. In this case, energy is stored in the batteries taking a relatively long time and this energy is used to perform spot welding. There are two methods for charging energy in the batteries, that is, one in which charging is made off time and the other in which charging is made at night. Spot welding of 1.0, 2.3 and 3.2 mm thick mild steel plates was tried using both the said charging methods and resulted in successful welds.
