Carbide precipitation and corrosion resistance in the HAZ of 15Cr-75Ni alloy were studied. The carbide precipitation and dissolution behaviours during weld thermal cycle and aging were observed using a simulated HAZ specimen. The corrosion property was tested in a boiling solution of 40% nitric acid using the simulated HAZ specimen. The base metal employed was overaged so that its intergranular cosrosion resistance might recover sufficiently. Therefore, the base metal had remarkable precipitates of carbide and the corrosion resistance. By the weld thermal cycle and aging, the carbides in the base metal once dissolved and precipitated again at the grain boundary resulting in a intergranular corrosion occurrence. The prevention of sensitization in the HAZ was investigated from the view point of carbon stabilization by the addition of niobium in the material. In the 15Cr-75Ni alloy, the niobium addition exceeding 40 in the ratio of Nb/C was effective to prevent the intergranular corrosion in the HAZ.
