The behavior of the sulfide inclusion in the HY-80 and SM50B heat-affected zones was observed, and its relation to the hydrogen cold cracking susceptibility was examined. The sulfide inclusion in the HY-80 heat-affected zone heated to 1450℃ was located in the form of array in the rolling direction. The behavior of the dissolved globular sulfide inclusion in the HY-80 heat-affected zone was quite different from that in the SM50B heat-affected zone heated to 1450℃, and it was assumed that this difference in the behavior caused the HY-80 heat-affected zone to be more susceptible to the hydrogen cold cracking. Consequently, it was proved that the partial melting which occurred in the heat-affected zone, such as in the HY-80 steel, was a main factor influencing the behavior of the dissolved globular sulfide inclusion, which had a close relation to the hydrogen cold cracking susceptibility.
