Recently semi-automatic welding has steadily taken the place of manual welding, and full-automatic welding is studied and tried everywhere. In this paper we explain the merits and demerits in applications of the sensors and microprocessors to welding and give some examples of their applications to the full-automatic welding devices. As examples we introduce here the CO_2 Arc welding robot and the MIG Arc welding manupulater for impeller, to which microprocessors are applied in order to control their axes. Both are controlled by real time process. In another example, microprocessors are applied to control the full-automatic multi-pass MIG welding device by computing the welding conditions of each pass according to a specially developed welding algorithm. Our new noncontact sensors are efficiently applicable to these devices, and they are used to produce various products in and out of our company.
