This paper reports about investigations in regard to the influences of the welding conditions mainly on porosities in insert-type electron beam welding for 50 Kgf/mm^2 class nodular cast iron (plate thickness: 6, 12, 18mm) with austenitic stainless steel SUS304 (thickness: 0.5 mm) as insert metal. Bead appearances, shape of fusion zone, porosities, state of weld cracks, and tensile test of weld joint have been carefully observed under the influences of welding conditions, that is, pretreatment annealing of base metal, active parameter (a_b value), beam current, welding speed and number of beam passes. From the observations and the investigations mentioned above, some discussions on the metallurgical properties of the welds are also presented.
