Development of a Multi-pass Welding Program for Arc Welding Robots and Its Application to Heavy Electrical Section Pieces

In welding fabrication of heavy electrical sections which are composed of thick plates and are not mass-produced, it is not so easy to utilize industrial arc wedling robots because it takes a long time to teach weld lines and welding parameters. It is necessary to simplify teaching operations so that industrial arc welding robots may be applied to welding of heavy electrical sections. A welding program for multi-pass welding, which is able to set the welding parameters for various welding positions (flat, vertical and horizontal) and groove shape of joints (fillet, single bevel, V, J etc.), has been developed. This multi-pass welding program was built in to an arc welding robots system and pplied to welding fabrication of haevy electrical sections. With this system, the optimum parameters and wire tip positions are set automatically only by inputting welding position, groove shape and its size after teaching the weld line of first pass. As a result the efficiency was greatly improved.
