Papilio protenor demetrius Cramer were raised on semi-synthetic diets including dried mandarine orange leaf powder. The nutritional effects of yeast, soybean protein, cholesterol and choline chloride on growth were analysed by a 5×5 Greco-Latin square experimental design. Of the four materials tested, yeast and soybean protein showed significant value, choline chloride showed slight value, and cholesterol seemed unimportant. The synthetic diets used in these experiments were inferior to fresh mandarine orange leaves for the mass production of Papilio.
