• Mortality rates of Phyllonorycter similis (KUMATA) and P. leucocorona (KUMATA) on Quercus dentata were assessed in two overwintering sites : on the tree and under the snow. The importance of each mortal factor for P. similis varied between the two overwintering sites, while parasitism was always principal factor for P. leucocorona. In both Phyllonorycter species, total mortalities were not different between the overwintering sites, because mortal factors were complementary to each other.
