The species of Aphytis are the most important natural enemies of armored scale insects. Ten members of this important genus are known to occur in Japan : chrysomphali (MERCET), cylindratus COMPERE, debachi AZIM, fisheri DEBACH, japonicus DEBACH et AZIM, lingnanensis COMPERE, mazalae DEBACH et ROSEN, mytilaspidis (LE BARON), vandenboschi DEBACH et ROSEN, and yasumatsui AZIM. Of these, lingnanensis is a recent introduction and mytilaspidis is a doubtful record. It is expected that many additional species occur in Japan.
