Three forms of Henosepilachna pustulosa (KONO) and one of Henosepilachna vigintioctomaculata (MOTSCHULSKY) in Hokkaido, as well as the so-called Western Tokyo form were reared with thistle and potato throughout one generation. The influence of the two plants as food during larval stage upon the host plant preference of newly emerged adults of these groups were studied. Adult Henosepilachna pustulosa reared with potato throughout larval stage increased potato consumption without decreasing that of thistle. Western Tokyo form reared with thistle in larval stage increased thistle consumption not decreasing that of potato.
