In this paper, the writer deals with morphological study of the immature stages of Dere thoracica White and its life history. Hitherto, the immature stages of this species have not been studied. The food-plants of this species are Fagus japonica Maxim., Quercus serrata Thunb., Quercus sp., Elaeagunus sp., Photinia glabra Maxim., Prunus Mume Sieb. et Zucc., Vitis vinitfera L., Albizzia Julibrissin Durazz. The writer collected this larva and pupa from dead stems of Albizzia Julibrissin, at Hiwa-cho, north part of Hiroshima Prefecture. This species appears from May to June and lays her eggs into the bark. After 9∿12 days, the larva hatches and feeds under the bark. In August to September, it pupates in a pupal cell formed in sapwood. Pupal duration is 8∿12 days. The adult does not escape from pupal cell and hibernates in adult stage.
