The sexuales of A. citricola overwintering on citrus and spirea were crossed. The eggs of crossed strains hatched intermediate time between field eggs on citrus and those on spirea. This time sequence was retained over one year in the inbred populations. The egg hatching time is thought to be genetically determined and these populations differing in overwintering host are defined as the biotypes. It is suggested that the host preference may differ between these biotypes.
