Phora lacunifera sp. nov. is described and illustrated from Japan, Taiwan and Nepal. It is the first species of the genus Phora from these countries. Some changes and new terms in the terminology of the male genitalia of Phora are proposed and discussed. This paper is the first part of a series of systematic studies of the Japanese Phora.
