Five polygynous nests of Polistes chinensis antennalis PEREZ were discovered out of 325 nests surveyed from 1974 to 1976 in Osaka, Japan. One of them was the case of permanent polygyny and others were of temporary polygyny. Colony development and behaviour of two queens in the permanent polygynous nests were studied. From comparison of colony development between the polygynous nest and the other monogynous nests it was concluded that the growth rate of the polygynous nests was not necessarily superior to that of the monogynous nests. In this case of permanent polygyny two queens behaved equivalently on the nest before the emergence of the first worker.
