Eutrichosiphum heterotrichum (Raychaudhuri), which was previously recorded from Japan under the name of E. dubium (van der Goot), is redescribed and figured, based on Japanese materials. Although the apterae of E. heterotrichum are characterized by having thick and stubby setae on the head, thorax, abdomen and siphunculi, the setae of the Japanese apterae were found to exhibit geographical and seasonal variation in shape and length. The fundatrix, oviparous female and male are described here for the first time. In the Kanto District, central Japan, its life cycle was found to be holocyclic, and the sexuales appeared from October onward.
