The willow leaf beetle, Plagiodera versicolora, overwinters in adult diapause. Its photoperiodic responses for diapause induction and termination were investigated at 22℃. All individuals entered diapause under short daylength, 10L-14D, but did not under long daylength, 16L-8D. The adult diapause, that was induced under short daylength, was terminated under long daylength. In the field at Ishikari, the ratios of females having mature ovarioles increased from late May to early June and decreased from mid-August to early September. This evidence may reflect the diapause termination under long daylengths of spring and the diapause induction under short daylengths of autumn.
