A squirrel monkey in vitro fertilization system was utilized to investigate reproductive variables. Monkeys were exposed to a controlled constant environment for the first, second and fourth quarters of the year and to a warm temperate outdoor environment for the third quarter of the year. Peaks of high in vitro maturation and fertilization rate were observed in the second quarter (April-June) in a three year study (1980-1982). Low embryo cleavage rates occurred in the second and third quarters. Degeneration of oocytes in culture was highest in the fourth but lowest in the second quarter. The data show a seasonal effect, probably augmented by type of environment, on cultured oocytes.
