A new and entirely different method Lrom the existing methods of synthesizing emerald has been developed, in which oxygen and fluorine gas react with starting materials of crystalline or amorphous BeO, Al_2O_3, SiO_2 and doping chemicals at higher temperatures and are transported to cooler portion where crystallization takes place on seeds. The method has been successfully applied to grow beryl crystals of more than 1cm in size with wide ranges of various colours : reddish brown, purple, yellowish green, sky blue, pink, brown, colourless and emerald green. Dcping agents are Co, Mn, Ni, Cu, Nd, Ag, Ti, Fe, Ce, Cr and their combinations. Using appropriate combination of doping agents, emerald green colour very close to natural emerald has been produced, which is called ASIC emerald. Dichroism, absorption spectra, fluorescence, refractive indices, specific gravity, Iattice constants of the products are measured. ASIC emeralds gave very close values to natural emeralds in most of these physical properties. Some of the synthesized beryl of various colour may be used to simulate not only emerald but also morganite, aquamaline, almandine garnet, blue spinel, amethyst, jade, peridot, turquoise, amazonite, rubelite, rose quartz, etc. Water-melone emerald (pink core and green mantle) has also been synthesized.
