Five female acanthocephalans were detected in the small intestine of the striped snake, Elaphe quadrivirgata, from Niigata Prefecture, Japan. Morphological characteristics were identical with those of Acanthocephalus lucidus Van Cleave. 1925 (Echinorhynchidae). The snake was considered to have been infected with this acanthocephalan by eating frogs, and supposedly to act as a fucultative final host. This is the first record of an adult acanthocephalan from snakes in Japan.
