The present study deals with cilia in visual cells of Macaca irus, Bos taurs, Gallus domesticus and Uroloncha domestica as revealed by an electron microscope. The results obtained are as follows; 1) In all the experimental animals it is observed that cilium has nine filaments arranged regularly in circle without distinguishable central structure. 2) The cilium of Bos taurs runs along the surface of the outer segment of rod. The filaments of cilium are not regularly arranged in the distal portion. 3) The basal body of cilium of Bos taurs consists of a distal and a proximal body. These are at right angles, being connected with each other by a bundle of fibres. Two processes are present surrounding the bottom of distal body. 4) In Macaca irus the bundle of fibres arising from the basal body runs to the inner segment. This bundle is composed of a large number of fine fibrils which are regularly segmented about every 75 mμ. 5) From the present study it can be concluded that the cilium of visual cell has the similar basic structures to the kinocilium of ciliated epithelium.
