1) Adequate daily doses of 19-nortestosterone derivatives having progestational property, 17α-ethinyl-19-nortestosterone (2 mg or more daily) and 17α-methyl-19-nortestosterone (0.5 mg or more daily), were capable of suppressing the vaginal cornifying action of estrone administered simultaneously. 2) Progestational property of 17α-ethinyl-19-nortestosterone interfered with estrogenic action of its own, if administered 2.0 mg or more daily (Maekawa, '59). Daily injections of 2.0 mg dose of this steroid seem to be necessary and sufficient to inhibit vaginal response to varying doses of estrogen given concurrently as well as to estrogenic action of the steroid itself. 3) Such an anti-estrogenic activity of 19-nortestosterone derivatives is not propotional to their progestational activity estimated by Clauberg's method. 4) Prolongation of the duration of vaginal response to estrogen, as observed with progesterone (Maekawa, '55), was also observable when 2α, 17α-dimethyl-19-nortestosterone was administered together with estrogen.
