An albino of the adult frog, Rana nigromaculata nigromaculata Hallowell was caught. It's eyes were red and the back was pale green. From cytological observations the following results were obtained. The melanophores also exist in the back epidermis of the albino frog, but the melanin granules are few in number, and of a small size with faint brown color. In the back epidermis of normal frog melanin granules are fairly large and numerous showing a black mass. the same differences of melanin granules between the albino and the normal can be seen in other organs such as liver and spleen. In normal frog melanin granules occur in the epithelial cells of stratum germinativum forming supranulear cap in the distal part of the cell. In the albino frog these granules are very small in size, so they can not be recognized in the photograph. The same tendency of melanin granules is recognized in the iris epithelium and the pigment layer of retina of the albino frog.
