These holarctic alpine species of the collembola are found from many places of central Japan. The morphological difference of them from those of North America reported by FOLSOM (1937) is in the shape of the two inner proximal eyes, which sometimes are entirely missing (Fig. 1f, nd 3f). Ecological habitats are also same with those reported by HANDSCHIN (1924) from Switzerland. They show some colour variations according to their habitats. Those collected from riverside or other hygropetric habitats show dull yellowish colourations (Fig. 1a), while those collected on snow in spring are always pigmented to deep purple (Fig. 2a).
