1. The brain tissues (telencephalon, mesencephalon) of the chick embryo of 5-15 days of incubation were cultured in the plasm-extract medium on the cover glass. 2. An outline of the outgrowing of the various cells and of the processes of the nervous elements is described. 3. The slender processes which always come out from the original piece into the medium in the culture of the nervous tissue are chiefly studied. Their mode of the bifurcation, the velosity of outgrowing and especially the presence of the protoplasmic connections (anastomoses) between them are demonstrated. 4. Te slender processes are made sharply visible when stained vitally with JANUS green of HOECHST. They become distinct because the minute droplets on them are stained deeply by the vital dye and not because the processes themselves are tinted. 5. The fact is noticed that when the neuroblasts wander out they leave usually some protoplasmic thread behind them. The mode of the outgrowing of the epitheloid cell group is also described to some extent.
