In this paper, we study the Mean Square Error(MSE) of the radio channel estimate obtained by using time-multiplexed pilot symbols. We use the transmission format of Figure 1 with N_p pilot symbols per N_d data symbols. We study the zero-centered interval [-T_p/2,T_p/2],and formulate an estimate h^^〜[ l△]=(h^^^[-T_p/2]+(h^^^[T_p/2] l=M/2,...,M/2 where h^^^[±T_p/2]=h[±T_p/2]+w[±T_p/2]are the estimates of the complex-valued scalar channel ray,h,obtained at the pilot-symbol blocks corrupted by the noise ,w.M=T_p/△is the number of discrete sub-intervals and ( and ( are method-dependent combining coefficients. The MSE of this estimate can be shown to be [numerical formula] where the (-functions are auto-correlation functions of h and w. We assume that the channel is isotropic scattering with Bessel-type autocorrelation, (_<hh>(()=(^2_<hh>j_o(2(f_d() and that (_<ww>(()=(^2_<ww>((() . We further define the SNR of the estimate h^^^ as (^2_<hh>/(^2_<ww> = 1/(^2_<ww>.
