The experiments were carried out with larvae of the strong race from Hirosaki and Niigata, of the weak race from Sapporo and of the KA strain (Table 1). 1)The scheme of experiment is shown in Tables 1 and 2. The experiments consist of both ovarian and testicular transplantations. 503 larvae of the 4th and 5th instars with their own gonads intact received transplants, 259 ovarian grafts and 244 testicular grafts. Of the operated animals, 25.868% (34♀♀, 33♂♂) of the former group and 27.049% (38♀♀, 28♂♂) of the latter group produced moths. The moths were carefully examined morphologically regarding wing-colouration, wing-markings, structure of frenulum and antennae, and colouration of abdominal woolly hairs of the adult females, in comparison with those of the control moths. The results of experiments show that the gonadal transplantations exert no appreciable influence on the external sex characters. In a few individuals wings remained crumpled due probably to a mechanical injury caused by the operation. 2)12 specimens (36.378%) out of 33 adult males which emerged from the larvae bearing ovarian grafts were found to contain yellow-coloured eggs in the abdominal cavities, in contrast to the eggs of lightly flesh-colour in unoperated, normal females. The yellow eggs found in the abdomen of the male hosts were generally much less in number than in the case of the normal females (Table 3). 3)Some larvae of the strong race showed abnormal testes asymmctrical in form.
