(1) Sminthurus melanonotus sp. nov. Male 1.3 mm. Body colour jet black. Under side of the abdomen and the furcula reddish brown. Antennae pale yellow, far longer than the head; segments measure in the ratio 3: 8.6: 9.7: 21. Ant. IV, showing 17 rings; its proximal portion not apparently annulated. Ant. III not ringed, with four long hairs near base. Mouth region pale yellow. Eyes 8 on either side. Claw unidentate. Unguiculus with a rather short apical filament. A long stout bristle, from the under side of the tibio-tarsus, extending to the extremity of the apical filament. Furcula well developed; segments, in relative lengths, as 10: 12.5: 4.5. Each ramus of the dentes with on its dorsal side two long clavate sense hairs. Mucrones rather stout, grooved deeply, truncate at the end, with the outer even and the inner wavy edges. Female 2 mm. Under side of the abdomen with a X-shaped blackish marking, its four arms radiating from the centre of the abdomen. Locality-4 specimens taken from near the Hikosan Biological Laboratory at Hikosan, Fukuoka Prefecture: in decaying stems (Mr. K. YASUMATSU; May 21 and June 24, 1937). Sminthurus melanonotus resembles European S. fuscus in general structure of the mucrones, in possessing an extra long bristle on the under side of the tibio-tarsus, and in unguiculus bearing a single apical filament. The present species, however, differs markedly from the latter in general body colour and by the absence of tunic on the claw. (2) Neanura gilvipunctata sp. nov. Length, 2〜3 mm. General colour dark indigo blue. Tubercles blackish purple. Dorsum with yellowish speckles on the I and III thoracic segments, also the I, II, III and V abdominal segments as shown in Fig. 2, a. Eyes 5 on either side. Postantennal organs, renal form in outline, composed of more than 200 papillae. Antennae shorter than the head and yellowish brown, except the basal segment which is bluish black; relative length of segments as 17: 13: 8: 21. Claws untoothed, with a ridge near base of the inner margin. Locality-10 specimens taken at Yamagata-mura, Aomori Prefecture (Mr. R. MARUMI; July 11, 1937). This species appears to come very near to Neanura gigantea in general body form, in the ground colour of the body, and in the number of the eyes. But the below features serve to distinguish the present species from N. gigantea: (1) by the smaller body; (2) in possessing yellowish markings on the antennae and the dorsum of the body; (3) in the number of the papillae of the postantennal organs; (4) by the absence of the inner teeth on the claws.
