Developments of zoeas of five species in the subfamilies Ocypodinae and Macrophthalminae (family Ocypodidae): Ocypode stimpsoni Ortmann, Uca lactea (de Haan), Paracleistostoma cristatum de Man, Macrophthalmus dilatatus (de Haan), and M. japonicus (de Haan), are dealt with in this paper. Under laboratory conditions, the numbers of zoeal stages are five in the first three species, and six in the last two. Much stress is laid here on the developmental changes of zoeal appendages and a key to zoeas of the 17 species of Ocypodidae is presented (Tables 2, 4). From this key, these zoeas are separable into three groups, although this classification is not in complete accord with the adult one. The first group, to which the genera Ocypode and Uca belong, has setations of 4・0(4)-0 in the endopod of maxilla I and 2・1(3) in that of maxilla II. The second group which includes Macrophthalmus, has 4・1(5)-1 in the former and 2・2(4) in the latter, and the third group including scopimera, Ilyoplax, Paracleistostoma, and Dotilla has 4・0(4)-0 and 3・2(5) in maxillae I and II, respectively.
