The primordial germ cells (PGCs) of the newt, Trituris pyrrhogaster, were observed with an electron microscope in order to investigate whether a structure specific to the germ cells was present. A unique structure which was not seen in the somatic cells was found in PGCs of feeding larva at stage 56. But the structure termed "germinal granules" as found in anurans was not observed in our examination. This structure consists mainly of electron dense materials, showing round shape, about 0.5μm in diameter in section. This structure also has no limiting membrane, and is closely associated with a few mitochondria. These features resemble those of the "nuage materials" found in oocytes of anurans. These nuage materials usually appear in proximity to the nucleus.
