The present paper deals with the nature of the enzyme trehalase extracted from the alimentary tract of fully grown meal-worms. The effect of pH on the rate of enzymatic hydrolysis of trehalose was examined. The optimum pH was found to be 5.6 and the hydrolytic activity sharply decreased in alkaline side. The temperature effect on the activity of this enzyme was studied over the range 5°-55℃. The activity was maximum at 45℃ and no activity was detectable at 55℃. The activation energy determined after Arrehenius' manner was 11.9×10^3 cal/mol. The effect of several kinds of metallic compounds on trehalase activity was studied. Of those examined, none caused acceleration of this enzyme activity. The inhibitory effect was in the following order; AgNO_3, HgCl_2>CuSO_4>MnSO_4>Pb(CH_3COO)_2>FeSO_4>CoCl_2, ZnSO_4>MgSO_4.
