Intracellular responses were obtained from the ciliary-type photoreceptor cells of a gastropod, Onchidium verrculatum. The cells studied were identified by marking with Procion Yellow M-4RS. Resting potentials in darkness were from -20 to -50mV. Receptor potential composed by hyperpolarization during illumination and depolarization at the cessation of it was associated with an increase in membrane conductance in either phase. Spectral response curve showed a peak at about 460nm.
