The fine structure of the spermatozoa in the hermaphrodite duct of Euhadra hickonis was examined under the electron microscope with thin sectioning, negative staining, freeze-etch technique and scanning electron microscopy. The spermatozoon has a head 6μ long and about 1μ in diameter, and a flagellum about 350μ long. The acrosome is spherical and a cyclindrical sub-acrosomal space with striated surface is seen between the nucleus and the acrosome. The nucleus has strong electron density, and has a deep invagination at the posterior end in which conical dense bodies derived from the centrioles are found. The inner microtubules of the tail axoneme originate from the dense bodies and the outer doublets originate from the connecting pieces which show a periodicity of 460Å. The cross-banded pattern which is most prominent in the connecting pieces decreases gradually in the principal piece. The principal piece contain three compartments, for glycogen, mitochondrial matrix and axoneme. In the sub-end piece, the glycogen compartment disappears; and in the end piece, only one empty compartment which is surrounded by a paracrystalline mitochondrial sheath remains to be seen.
