In the dermis of the transparent scaled goldfish during depigmentation, it appeared a large number of macrophage-like cells containing numerous disintegrating pterinosomes, which were separated from the other cytoplasmic organelles by a single limiting membrane. They were considered to be a kind of phagosome frequently observed in macrophage. We designated these structures as the "pterinosome complex", because the conglomerate of melanosomes in the macrophage is generally called the "melanosome complex". The mechanism of formation of these structures was discussed.
