The intracellular receptor potential and the membrane resistance of the retinular cell of crayfish were simultaneously measured with a KCl glass microelectrode and a Dodge-type bridge. Light stimulus induced a depolarization accompanied by a decrease in the membrane resistance. The decrease was linearly proportional to the amount of depolarization. The photoreceptor cell whose membrane resistance had been measured was identified morphologically by the injection of a fluorescent dye (Procion Yellow).
