Based mainly on morphological characteristics of the setae on the second antennal scale and of the integument in general, the stages of intermolt cycle were determined of the laboratory maintained freshwater prawn, Palaemon paucidens, during May. By observing twenty-eight live specimens over a month, the intermolt cycle could be divided into five stages, A-E, and stages C and D were further divided into two and three substages, respectively. It was found that during the period when the water temperature was 17-19℃ the stage C extended over 33.3% and stage D 54.5%, respectively, of the total duration of a cycle, i.e. about 21 days. These results are in agreement with those obtained in two marine species, Palaemon serratus (Drach, 1944) and P. xiphias (Scheer, 1960), but differ from those in brachyurans (Drach, 1939) where the stage C (66%) lasted longer than the stage D (24%). Also, the new method enabled the author to conclude that there is no difference in duration of the cycle between the male and the female.
