To suppress the formation of primordial germ cells (PGCs), the vegetal hemisphere of frog eggs was exposed to ultraviolet rays (UV) at the 2-cell stage, and the effects upon the formation of PGCs by pressing eggs upon irradiation were examined. The results showed that the formation of PGCs was suppressed far greater in the pressed eggs groups than the non-pressed ones. In addition, the results of cytological observation suggested that pressure on the eggs upon irradiation would probably bring about the exclusion of a part of the cortical cytoplasm containing germinal plasm.
