• Removal of the walking legs from an eyed terrestrial crab, Sesarma haematocheir, induced precocious molting in proportion to the number of missing legs. Ablation of legs was also effective in inducing precocious molting in a crab whose sinus glands had been removed. These results suggest that the removal of legs triggers precocious molting unrelated to sinus glands, the probable site of origin of the molt-inhibiting hormone.
