Developing eggs of Corcyra cephalonica of <24, 24-48, and 48-72 hr after oviposition contain two carbohydrates (glycogen and trehalose), ten free amino acids [arginine, leucine, lysine, phenylalanine (found only in eggs older than 24 hr), aspartic acid, cystine, cystine, glutamic acid, serine and tyrosine], and 34.8 to 61.7% (dry weight basis) total lipids. Variation in the amount of these biochemical constituents in the eggs belonging to different age groups is discussed in relation to their utilisation during embryogenesis.
