The composition of rumen ciliates in the Holstein-Friesian cattle bred in Hokkaido, Japan was surveyed. Of 50 species with 19 formae under 15 genera identified, two new species were recognized, then described as Entodinium okoppensis and Ostracodinium munham. Entodinium okoppensis may be classified further into such four morphotypes as, okoppensis, bispinosum, bifidum and monospinosum on the basis of caudal processes. Thirteen species were the first record in Japanese cattle. The average number of individuals per 1 ml of rumen fluid was 5.4 × 10^5, and that of species per head of host was 17.2.
