To investigate the relationship between preputial glands and aggression, male mice underwent one of the following three surgeries, bilateral (XX), unilateral (PX) or sham (PP) preputialectomy. The mice were paired off and placed for 14days in cages which were divided by a wire net barrier. The pair was permitted to come into contact with each other periodically. Social behavior during removal of the barrier was observed. PP-PP, PP-PX and PP-XX pairs showed vigorous aggressive behavior than PX-PX, XX-XX and PX-XX pairs. PP males were more apt to become dominant than PX or XX males. It was concluded that the preputial gland affects the aggressive behavior of its owner.
