Compound semiconductor transistors are emerging as one of the mainstream technologies for commercial wireless applications. Compound semiconductors have demonstrated themselves as a viable production technology for both high-volume and niche markets in recent years. In this paper, we attempt to give an overview of the general device and process technology trends of compound semiconductors for next generation commercial wireless applications. Migrating to 6" GaAs substrates promises a more cost-effective solution for high-volume products. Four manufacturable advanced technologies developed at WIN Semiconductors 6" GaAs facility are presented to address the needs for cellular handset and base-station PAs, switches, and millimeter wave MMIC markets.
