In 2001 Nokia realized the importance of licensing the Series 60 Platform to other mobile device manufacturers in order to stimulate the growth of the multimedia mobile services market. Nokia recognized that we must fight fragmentation and build a strong community around a powerful smartphone platform. More than two years later we see the success of this decision with five prominent licensees, multiple Series 60 devices and thousands of applications in the market. This presentation first describes Nokia's focus on multimedia devices - with two categories having chosen to build devices based on Series 60. It then describes the Series 60 Platform and highlights a few of its core applications and technologies. The product creation community is described and value of the Series 60 Platform for device manufacturers, developers and mobile operators is also explained.
