MW2000-12 / OPE2000-12 Moisture Measurement Independent of Thickness and Density Using Microwave at Two Frequencies

A method for moisture measurement independent of thickness and density using microwave free-space technique is proposed. The method is based on the measurement of phase shifts at two different microwave frequencies. The experimental results showed that it was able to measure the moisture content without any knowledge of density and thickness for the material with different thickness and density such as green tea, and for the material with gradient density such as timber. The mean value of error in the moisture determination is 1.2% for tea leaves in the moisture range from 6 to 32%, and 1.4% for timber in the moisture range from 2 to 30%.
