Safety analysis techniques include Markov analysis, Reliability block diagram, Hybrid techniques, Parts count analysis, FTA(Fault tree analysis), as well as FMEA and Analysis by experts. Each of them can fit to cover some aspects of the system behaviour concerning safety. At the same time, several techniques can be suitable to analyse some aspect of the system behavior concerning risk, but they do not always lead to the same results. Rouvroye and Brombacher made a comparison of them and indicated that Markov analysis and the Enhanced Markov analysis techniques can cover most aspects of system safety related behavior. According to their conclusions, the Markov analysis technique is applied to the standard IEC 61508 for quantitative analysis in the present paper. However, problems in the standard are found through derivation in detail. New suggestions are proposed based on the results obtained.
