We have developed a small satellite Whale Ecology Observation Satellite (WEOS, Kantakun) and concerning system for studying whale ecology globally. On Dec. 14, 2002 NASDA launched our small satellite of 50 kg with H-IIA-4 rocket as one of the piggyback payloads into a polar orbit of 800km high from Tanegashima Space Center. By positive adoption of consumers' electronics parts, we manufactured the WEOS in our institute, and realized it in high cost effectiveness for the development. This paper describes the outline of the WEOS system, attitude maneuvering after the launch, and applications being carried out.
